The Short Answer

The Rock has worked a limited wrestling schedule for many years, but limited activity is not the same as a formal retirement. WWE's official profile still documents his 2024 in-ring return and does not list a retirement date.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has split his time between Hollywood and WWE for more than a decade. That schedule explains the long gaps between appearances far better than any retirement claim does.

His Most Recent Official Match

At WrestleMania XL in April 2024, The Rock teamed with Roman Reigns against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. The Rock and Reigns won the tag team main event.

That match came after The Rock spent months appearing on WWE television to set up the Bloodline storyline around Reigns. The in-ring return followed years of speculation about whether he would wrestle again at all.

Why Fans Ask About Retirement

The Rock's film, television, and business schedule keeps him away from weekly wrestling. Long gaps between matches have led to repeated retirement questions throughout his career.

One historical example came after WrestleMania XX in 2004. WWE described that bout as his last match for nearly eight years, not a permanent retirement. He returned to wrestle again in 2011.

His WrestleMania trilogy with Stone Cold Steve Austin, spanning WrestleMania 15, 17, and 19, shows the same pattern. Long absences from the ring have never meant his in-ring career was finished.

How We Will Update This Page

A formal retirement date should come from The Rock, WWE, or an authorized representative. Until that happens, the accurate description is a part-time or inactive in-ring schedule.
